Looking Closer

Unfolding the cloth at the end of a Japanese Shibori-style resist dyeing process is so exciting.  Contemplation leads me to exploration of the shapes and patterns revealed by this magical experience.  I find myself looking to the creatures and symbols of their environment.  In this piece I discovered a Green Man, a clear representation of a face surrounded by leaves. Branches sprout from the mouth, nostrils, or other parts of the face and these shoots often bear flowers or fruit.

The Green Man is second of the larger pieces in my Discoveries series.
