Stormy Oak Tree   2013
97cm x 51cm
The inspiration for this quilt was a majestic English oak tree in Kew Gardens

Cotton sateen fabric, appliquéd with hand-dyed silk cotton fabric. Hand embellishment.

Hidden Treasures: exhibition by Contemporary Expressions
19th Carrefour Europeen de Patchwork, France, 2013

Looking Closer

A piece of hand-dyed silk created a troubled atmosphere for this small quilt, when the skies are threatening with the coming rain and the winds begin to blow the trees about.  Whilst visiting our national treasure ‘Kew Gardens’ I observed a majestic oak tree just as a storm was threatening and captured it in a photograph.  I knew that sometime in the future I would make a quilt as a memory of that moment.
The quilt was sold at the first exhibition of Hidden Treasures and hence I need to make a replacement….which was Pollarded Lime.
